First United Methodist Church
Sunday, May 01, 2016
There was a fire at our beloved church on Tuesday, March 15, 2016. Everyone made it out safely. We are grateful for the quick and efficient response of the Rochester Fire Department. The fire is out and Pastor Jeff and the Trustees are assessing the damage at this time. Prayers would be greatly appreciated.
Pastor Jeff wanted to share this message:
"Thank you all so much for your kind words and prayers during, and following, the fire that damaged the church I serve today. First United Methodist Church is truly blessed to be part of a community with such an excellent fire department. They were phenomenal - got right to the heart of the fire and put it out with relatively minor damage. I am also grateful to have had people from the community in our building at the time the fire started. We sponsor a meal program for those in need 3 nights a week. If they hadn't been serving tonight, the fire would have gained more headway. That part of the building was constructed in 1868, and who knows what could have happened. Our neighbors in the faith community have reached out to us offering prayers, support, space, and much more. Because of all these gifts in a time of trial, I am more convinced than ever that God is real, and that God loves us. I love the church I serve and the community I am a part of."
Fellowship Kitchen Updates:
Fellowship Kitchen is still on tonight March 17, but it has moved as the repairs continue at FUMC. Thank you to our neighbors at First Church Congregational for helping us continue to "feed the need"! Fellowship Kitchen will still be served Tuesday and Thursday. While are repairs are underway First Church Congregation is graciously allowing us to use their building.
Clean-up is underway. We are making great progress. Please be mindful of scheduling changes. We will post things as soon as possible. There will be no Souped-up Sunday this Sunday following worship.
All outside groups that use the Hurd Hall and that side of the building will be cancelled while repairs continue.
We are a Church where ‘the lights are on every day and night.
