Bible Study

LENTEN BIBLE STUDY

Pastor Jeff cordially invites all who are able to join him during Lent for a study based on H. Michael Brewer’s book, Lessons from the Carpenter: an Apprentice Learns from Jesus (WaterBrook Press, Colorado Springs, 2006). This book, written by a pastor, invites us to consider Jesus’ ministry from the perspective of a first century Nazarene carpenter.  Brewer states: “(Jesus’) early career with wood helped shape his ministry.  And the more you understand his carpentry, the more you’ll understand and appreciate his message.” The five-session study will be offered on Wednesday evenings at 6:30 and Thursday afternoons at 12:15 beginning on February 17th and 18th. We have secured twelve copies of the book, available on a first come - first served basis, for $8/copy, including shipping costs. It is available through Christian Book Distributors. The book is also available for download through Amazon, but print copies are backordered. Please sign up on the bulletin board.  If you have any questions, please speak to Pastor Jeff.

Apps in the Bible! Wednesdays, 6:30 PM,

We rely on our smartphones today - but how did folks in the Bible get along without them? Join our topical Bible study and explore what equivalent systems were used in the Bible - and how God uses them today. This study will fill the gap in the calendar between Advent and Lent! Bring your Bible - but no smartphone required!

Our next session, MAIL, will explore how people  in  the Bible used written communications with each other.

Join us Wednesdays.  Questions? Contact Rick Mills at (207) 619-0855 or rickmills9@gmail.com

FIRST UMC INCLEMENT

WEATHER POLICY

1- Worship is a very important part of the life of our church body, so we will make every effort to remain open for our worship services.

2- We will always trust you to make your own decision about getting out and traveling in inclement weather.  Please do not take unnecessary risks, even if you are scheduled as acolyte, liturgist, usher, greeter, communion steward, or your musical group is scheduled to perform.

3- We will usually wait until Sunday morning to make a brief assessment of travel conditions around the church and the safety of our parking lot and entrances, and then make the decision regarding            worship.

5- If there is NO CHANGE to our church schedule, we will make NO ANNOUNCEMENT.

6- If conditions for travel are unsafe early in the morning, assume the 8:30 service is cancelled.  Roadways are often better by our 10 a.m. service time.

7- If we cannot assure reasonably safe conditions for people to park, enter, and exit our facilities, we will cancel services and/or postpone weekly activities.

8- We will communicate changes in our church schedule as soon as possible by the following means:

-An update will be posted on the church Facebook page

            -WMUR TV Channel 9

            -WOKQ Radio 97.5FM
